CONSTRUCTION OF SC DHARAMSHALAS/CHAUPALS .
This scheme was started in the year 1969-70. Under this scheme, Dharamshalas are constructed in the Scheduled Caste Basties in the State so that these people may derive community benefits and arrange their social functions at these places. A grant of Rs. 1,00,000/is given for the construction of a new Dharamshala and Rs. 50,000/- is given for the repair of incomplete Scheduled Caste Dharamshala. The land and the labour for the construction of Dharamshala are arranged by the Community/village Panchayat. Grant is provided for the construction of new Dharamshala in the village/town having suitable site measuring 10 marlas to one Kanal in village and 4 marlas in town inhabited by 10 to 15 Scheduled Caste families. Now this scheme has been covered under Punjab Nirman Programme from the year 2005-06 as per latest decision by the State Govt.
There are 12729 villages in the State, out of which 11783 have been covered up to the year 2002-03 and 17848 Dharamshalas have been constructed.
Under this scheme the Managing Committee consisting of the following members is responsible for proper utilization of grant:-
1. District Welfare Officer | Chairman |
2. Tehsil Welfare Officer(Ex offices) | Member Secretary |
3. Scheduled Caste Panch/Counsellor/M.C. | Member-cum-Cashier |
4. Sarpanch / Panch/Counsellor/M.C. Other than Scheduled Caste. | Member |
5. Any Scheduled Caste member, Preferably lady member of Gram Panchayat in village & Counselor or M.C. Urban area. | Member |
