Construction of Hostels for OBC Boys and Girls in Schools and Colleges (State Plan) (C.S.S. 50:50 Basis) Object
The object of the scheme is to provide hostel facilities to Other Backward Classes Boys and Girls Students. This scheme has been started by the Govt. of India from the 9th Five Year Plan (1997-2002). The grant-in-aid is given to the Educational Institutions for construction of new hostels and for expansion of existing hostels buildings for the benefit of OBC boys and girls students.
Funding Pattern
This is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme and the funds will be shared on 50:50 basis between the State Govt. and Central Govt.
Eligibility
The hostels under the scheme can be constructed for Middle, Secondary, College and University stage of education. As per guide-lines issued by Govt. of India, the cost of construction of hostel building for which Central Assistance is sought should be worked out on the basis of State/UT PWD/CPWD scheduled of rates.
The maximum number of boys/girls for whom accommodation is to be provided in each hostel under the scheme should not exceed 100.
In the hostels constructed for OBC students 5% of the total seats in these Hostels shall be reserved for disabled students.
The organizations eligible for assistance shall be as follows:-
(i) The State Governments and UTs concerned.
(ii) Institutions or organizations set-up by Govt. or autonomous body under statute or as a society under the Registration of Societies Act,1860 or otherwise ;
(iii) Educational and other institutions owned and controlled by either Central
Government/State Government/UTs.
